The highly anticipated rematch of Steve McKinnon and Thor Hoopman was scheduled to take place at the Sydney Olympic Park States Sports Centre on the 20th March 2010 but has now been postponed due to an injury that will keep McKinnon from training.
“I am extremely disappointed that this fight has to be postponed,” said McKinnon. “I was training very hard and looking forward to getting in the ring on March 20th.”
“I was very disappointed to hear the news about the fight being postponed,” said Hoopman from Queensland. “I will remain focused, in shape and ready to fight on the rescheduled show”.
According to reports, Steve McKinnon, the 33-year-old kick boxing champ tore his calf muscle during a training session and has had to stop training for the fight, doctor’s advice he will be fit to fight in the upcoming rescheduled fight.
"He tried to work through it. He really did not want to postpone the fight, but he is not able to weight bare or walk," Reinhardt Badato, of Invincible Promotions said. "He could not train, he could not walk and there was really not much of a choice left for us."
Invincible Promotions directors Stuart McKinnon and Reinhard Badato released today that both fighters have committed to the rescheduled fight now being held on Friday May 14th 2010.
“Shane Meads who was originally out of the March show due to injury will make his second fight comeback on the rescheduled May show, meaning we now have three massive heavy weight fights instead of two. Postponing the show was really our best option, it enables us to guarantee the fight fans of Australia the most exciting and entertaining night we can” said Badato.
